Freshman Led Team in Scoring

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman forward Jackie Raines (London, Ont.), who led the Yale women's ice hockey team in scoring, has been named one of three finalists for ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Year.

Raines is the ninth freshman in Yale history to lead the team in scoring, and the first since Crysti Howser '09 in 2005-06. She finished the season with nine goals and 10 assists, placing her second on the team in assists and tied for second in goals. She had game-winning goals against Brown, UConn and Union.

Raines ended the season with nine points in the last nine games, including three goals and six assists. She centered a line of all freshmen, including classmates Jenna Ciotti (Manotick, Ont.) and Ashley Dunbar (Hillsborough, N.J.), that earned the nickname "the Smurfs" because all three are 5-foot-4 or shorter.

Prior to Yale Raines was a captain for the London Devilettes and Oakridge Secondary School. She represented Ontario at the U-18 Canadian National Championships Nov. 2009 and helped Team Ontario-Blue to a silver medal, the team's best finish in history.

The winner of the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Year Award will be announced on Feb. 28. The other finalists are Quinnipiac's Kelly Babstock and Cornell's Brianne Jenner.
