Bulldogs Blank Toronto in Exhibition, 2-0
Goals for Dunbar, Haddad
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's ice hockey team shut out the Toronto Jr. Aeros 2-0 in an exhibition game at Ingalls Rink Saturday afternoon. Sophomore goalie Jaimie Leonoff made 23 saves, while the Bulldogs got goals from sophomore forward Ashley Dunbar and freshman forward Jamie Haddad.
Toronto, a club team that has produced current Bulldogs junior defenseman Aurora Kennedy, sophomore forward Lynn Kennedy and freshman defenseman Kate Martini, is in the midst of a tour through the Northeast which started with a 4-1 loss at Princeton Friday and concludes with a game at Brown Sunday. The Aeros got six saves from goalie Maggie Prince to hold the Bulldogs scoreless in the first, but Dunbar's goal at 5:51 of the second put Yale up 1-0. Haddad increased that lead less than four minutes later, flipping one in under Prince's blocker after being denied on her first attempt. Freshman forward Janelle Ferrara and junior forward Patricia McGauley assisted on the play.
Liberty McKague came on in relief of Prince midway through the second and kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard the rest of the way. But Leonoff did the same to the Aeros, including 10 saves in both the second period and the third period.
Yale opens its regular season Friday at Robert Morris.
