Bulldogs Can't Catch Up to Raiders
Hamilton, N.Y. -- Sophomore forward Charlotte Welch opened and closed the scoring with her first two-goal night, as the Bulldogs fell 6-3 to No. 9 Colgate (18-8-5, 12-4-3) at Starr Arena on Friday.
Welch put Yale on the board first 8:36 into the opening frame. The Winchester, Massachusetts, native buried a wrap-around pass from the stick of linemate Rebecca Vanstone. The first-year duo recorded their 16th and 20th points respectively. Defenseman Tabea Botthof also earned an assist on the play.
After two consecutive Raiders goals, Rebecca Foggia notched her seventh goal this season and fourth in her last six games. The sophomore forward was assisted by first-year forward Kaitlyn Rippon and senior defenseman Julia Yetman.
Welch kept the Bulldogs in the hunt with her second goal of the night to bring the score to 5-3 late in the third. Welch converted her fifth goal of the season off a feed from Claire Dalton.
The Yale women's hockey team is back in action tomorrow afternoon against No. 6 Cornell. Puck drop is slated for 3:00 p.m.
