Columbus, Ohio - Three unanswered goals by Ohio State in the second period provided the margin for a 3-2 Buckeyes win over Yale Saturday afternoon at the OSU Ice Rink. The Bulldogs (10-10-0, 8-3-0 ECACHL) had taken a 2-0 lead on goals from Deena Caplette and Erin Duggan earlier in the period, only to have OSU (12-9-1, 9-9-0 WCHA) rally for its second one-goal win in the two-game set.
Nicole Symington and Helen Resor assisted on Caplette's goal 5:37 into the second period, giving Yale its first lead of the weekend. Duggan scored again just 20 seconds later, giving her four goals for the weekend.
OSU rallied back with an unassisted goal by Jaclyn Haines at 12:11 and a goal from Jeni Creary at 15:58 to tie it. Pamela Patterson tallied just 1:46 before the intermission for the lead, and Erika Vanderveer held on to that lead with 6 of her 18 saves in the final period. Yale got just one power pay chance all game and failed to score, while the Buckeyes went 0-for-3. Sarah Love made 24 saves for the Bulldogs.
Yale has a weekend off before returning to ECACHL play Friday, Jan. 28 at Brown. Dartmouth won two conference games this weekend to move into first place with a 10-0-0 record (20 points), with Harvard (9-1-0, 18 points) just ahead of Yale (8-3-0, 16 points) in the standings. Eight teams make the playoffs, and the top four host a best-of-three series March 3-5.
