TROY, N.Y. - It was the season opener, but Yale senior goaltender Shivon Zilis was in mid-season form Friday night. She made 32 saves, many of the spectacular variety, to help the Bulldogs pull out a 1-1 tie at RPI.

The Engineers took a 1-0 lead at 10:39 of the first on a goal by Allison Wright, but Zilis stopped 13 other shots in the frame and also kept RPI scoreless on three power plays -- part of a night in which Yale killed off all six Engineer power plays.

Neither team scored in the second period, with RPI holding a slim 9-8 edge in shots on goal. The Bulldogs finally broke through in the third, outshooting the Engineers 12-6, and junior forward Sarah Tittman got the game-tying goal on a power play with 10:15 to play. She deflected in a shot from the point by sophomore defenseman Berit Johnson, with sophomore forward Mandi Schwartz also picking up an assist on the play.

RPI (4-1-1, 0-0-1 ECAC) outshot Yale 4-2 in overtime, and had a power play right at the end, but Zilis and RPI's Ashley Mayr (32 saves) finished off the defensive battle as a draw.

Junior forward Crysti Howser and sophomore forward Denise Soesilo generated a good chunk of the Yale offense with five shots each. Junior forward Danielle Kozlowski, in turn, had five blocked shots to highlight Yale's defensive effort.

Yale returns to the ice Saturday afternoon at Union.
