HAMILTON, N.Y. - An empty-net goal by Ashley Bradford with 1:27 to play sealed a win for Colgate over Yale at Starr Rink Saturday afternoon, 4-2. Down 3-0 just over 22 minutes into the game, Yale rallied behind second-period goals from Jenna Spring and Kristin Savard to cut the deficit to one before Bradford's goal put the game out of reach.
The Raiders outshot Yale 18-5 in the first, and two of those shots (Carly McNaughton on a power play and Becky Irvine at even strength) got past Yale goalie Sarah Love. Cassie Reid's power play tally at 2:23 of the second increased the lead to 3-0. The Bulldogs buckled down defensively after that, and allowed just seven shots on goal for the last two periods combined.
Spring scored on a power play at 9:20 of the second, assisted by Kristen Stupay and Sarah Tittman, to get Yale on the board. Savard tallied just under six minutes later, assisted by Sheila Zingler and Deena Caplette.
Yale peppered Raider goalie Brook Wheeler with 12 shots on goal in the third period, but she stopped each of them.
Love finished with 21 saves.
The Bulldogs return to action next Saturday at Ingalls Rink against BC at 1:00 p.m.
