No. 6 Dartmouth Edges Yale 4-3
Nov. 17, 2006
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Cherie Piper netted the eventual gamewinner midway through the third period to lead the Dartmouth Big Green to a come-from-behind 4-3 victory against the Yale Bulldogs in women's hockey action at Ingalls Rink on Friday night.
Piper picked off a Yale clearing attempt and from the top of the slot fired a shot past junior goaltender Shivon Zilis for the only Big Green lead of the night.
Katie Gray had knotted the game at 3-3 just 15 seconds in the third with a blast that beat Zilis on the glove side.
Yale (4-4-0, 3-3-0 ECAC) built a first period two goal lead as sophomore defenseman Maggie Westfal and senior forward Sheila Zingler each scored goals. Dartmouth cut the lead in half when Gillian Apps snapped a perfect shot over Zilis with 58 seconds remaining in the first.
In the second period the teams traded goals as Apps made it 2-2 and then at the 12:46 mark, sophomore defenseman Helen Resor gave the Bulldogs their lead back at 3-2. She picked up the puck after senior forward Kristin Savard hit the post and fired home her second of the season.
Savard ended the game with a pair of assists while Resor added a helper for a two-point night for Yale. Zilis finished the game with 27 saves.
Piper had a goal and assist for Dartmouth (6-3-0, 6-1-0 ECAC).
The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday at 4:00 pm, hosting Harvard. A live video stream of the game will be available on yalebulldogs.com.
