Schenectady, NY - Jenna Spring had a hat trick and Sarah Love and Carrie Horbatuk combined for the shutout in net as Yale won 7-0 at Union. The Bulldogs move to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the ECACHL. Spring's hat trick is the second this season by a Bulldog. Captain Erin Duggan, who accomplished the feat against Quinnipiac, scored two goals this time.
Spring scored at 15:55 of the first on a Deena Caplette assist. While that was the only goal of the first period, it was a sign of things to come. Those two would have a hand in six of the seven Bulldog goals on the night. Spring assisted on an Ali Turney goal at 11:47 of the second, then scored one of her own -- assisted by Caplette and Nicole Symington -- at 13:39. She completed the hat trick at 18:25 on assists from Caplette and Kristin Savard.
Duggan scored at 2:22 and 5:06 of the third to break the game open, with Savard, Spring, Symington and Turney all picking up assists. Kelsey Johnson closed out the scoring with Yale's lone power play goal, assisted by Duggan and Turney.
Love and Horbatuk made four saves each as the Bulldogs outshot the Dutchwomen 42-8 and held Union 0-for-6 on the power play. Yale had not scored seven goals in a game since January 22, 2003 (12-1 over Sacred Heart). Last season, when the Bulldogs never had a player register a hat trick, Yale didn't get its fourth win until the 13th game of the season.
