Late Rally Not Enough as Yale Falls 4-2 at Clarkson
Dec. 1, 2006
POTSDAM, N.Y. - Genevieve Lavoie's hat trick helped Clarkson to a 4-2 win over Yale Friday night at Cheel Arena. Lavoie accounted for two of Clarkson's three goals in the second period, then tacked on another in the third after freshman forward Mandi Schwartz pulled Yale within 3-1. Senior forward Kelsey Johnson added an extra-attacker goal for Yale with 2:15 to play.
Freshman Ansley LaHue got the start in goal for Yale and stopped all six shots she faced in the first period, holding Clarkson scoreless on two power plays. Katie Morrison opened the scoring at 10:58 of the second, and Lavoie scored at 15:59 and 19:00 (on a power play) for a 3-0 lead.
Schwartz' power-play goal, assisted by senior forward Kristin Savard, pulled Yale within two with 11:30 to play, but Lavoie added her third of the game and 11th of the season with eight minutes left.
Savard also assisted on Johnson's goal, but it was not enough for Yale to overcome the deficit.
Stephanie Hansen made 31 saves for Clarkson. LaHue finished with 17.
The Bulldogs return to action Saturday afternoon at No. 7 St. Lawrence.
