NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Freshman forward Denise Soesilo (Hamburg, Germany) has been named ECAC Rookie of the Week. A member of the German Olympic team last season, Soesilo is currently second on the Bulldogs in points (2-3-5), including four in conference play.
Soesilo picked up three points over the weekend, including goals in both games. She scored Yale's final goal in a 3-1 win over Quinnipiac Saturday and also assisted on the game-winner. She had Yale's only goal in a 3-1 loss to Princeton Sunday at Ingalls Rink. She is the first Bulldog to earn Rookie of the Week honors since Feb. 13 (Crysti Howser).
Soesilo, who was president of her high school in 10th grade, is a violinist with the Mendelssohn Youth Symphony Orchestra Hamburg and plays chamber music. She graduated from Queen Elizabeth High School in Calgary.
In 2003-04 Soesilo decided to do an exchange year in Canada. She eventually wound up playing for the renowned Oval X-Treme in Calgary, a team that included several Canadian Olympians. She won the 2005 WWHL Championship with the X-Treme.
Yale's other Olympian, sophomore defenseman Helen Resor (Greenwich, Conn.) of Team USA, earned a spot on the ECAC Honor Roll after picking up three assists over the weekend.
