Ketchum Named ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week Again

Dec. 10, 2007

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - For the second time this season, freshman Bray Ketchum (Greenwich, Conn.) is the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week. The Bulldog forward earned the honor Monday after picking up two goals Sunday to help Yale to a 2-2 tie with Brown.

Ketchum's two goals came on just three shots, and she was +1 for the game. She has moved into a tie for the team lead in goals with five and is 14th in the country in points per game among rookies (5-5-10 in 12 games).

Ketchum's first goal, 5:01 into the third, came off assists by junior forward/defenseman Maggie Westfal (New Canaan, Conn.) and junior forward Crysti Howser (Wilmette, Ill.) and gave Yale a 1-0 lead. Less than a minute after Brown's Sasha Van Muyen tied the game with seven minutes remaining, Ketchum struck again. Sophomore defenseman Alyssa Clarke (Donkin, N.S.) got the play started by stealing the puck along the right boards in the neutral zone while Brown was making a line change. Clarke quickly fed it across the ice to Ketchum, who built up a full head of steam heading into the Brown zone. She passed the puck around a Bear defender to herself, leaving only goalie Nicole Stock in her way. Ketchum took care of Stock by deking her to the ice and then switching to her backhand to deposit the puck in the net for her fifth tally of the year.

Including a 2-1 win at Providence on Thursday, Ketchum played penalty-free hockey in Yale's two games this week and has incurred only three penalties in 12 games.

Ketchum, who played for the Connecticut Stars, is a four-time USA Hockey player development camp selection. She was the 2006-07 Boston Globe NEPSAC Women's Athlete of the Year and 2006-07 New England Prep School Division II Player of the year for Greenwich Academy, where her team won three straight Division II championships.

Ketchum first earned the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week honor Nov. 12 after scoring two goals and adding an assist in Yale's games at Cornell and Colgate that weekend. This is the fourth weekly honor for a Bulldog this year. Freshman goalkeeper Jackee Snikeris (Downingtown, Pa.) was the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week Nov. 5 and senior goalkeeper Shivon Zilis (Markham, Ont.) was ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week Nov. 26.
