Nine Join Bulldogs in Class of 2015

Five Midfielders, Two Defenders, One Attacker and One Goalkeeper Part of Class

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's lacrosse team welcomes nine incoming freshmen to the roster for the 2012 season. The class, which includes five midfielders, two defenders, one attacker and one goalkeeper, represents five different states.

The newcomers bring a wide variety of accomplishments both on and off the field to New Haven. The group includes a two-time all-county player who has traveled to Ecuador and Mexico to do volunteer work (Cathryn Avallone), an Under Armour All-American who has run two half-marathons (Clare Curran), a US Lacrosse All-Academic honoree whose family includes three generations of lacrosse players from Yale's Ivy League rival Princeton (Christina Doherty), an Under Armour All-American who trained with a former Yale All-American (Kerri Fleishhacker), an all-district pick whose six siblings include two college lacrosse players (Jayne Flynn), a US Lacrosse All-Academic honoree who won her school's sportsmanship award (Reilly Foote), an US Lacrosse All-Academic honoree who helped raise more than $2 million for ALS research (Erin Magnuson), a school scholar-athlete award winner who was part of four state championships (Erin Mullins) and a US Lacrosse All-Academic honoree who has volunteered as a tutor and traveled to Appalachia to build houses for low-income families (Emily Rutland).

The nine additions bring Yale's roster up to 27 for 2012, the Bulldogs' fourth season under Anne Phillips as the Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach of Women's Lacrosse. Seven players from last year's team graduated.

Club teams: Played for Liberty Lacrosse with current Yale teammate Kerri Fleishhacker … Also played for Long Island Metro schoolgirls summer tournament team.

Notes: Worked on a wildlife rehabilitation farm in Ecuador for two weeks … Built houses for families in Mexico for one week … Family includes multiple Ivy Leaguers … Grandfather Ames Ressa is a Yale alum … Father, Michael, attended Columbia … Uncle Ames Ressa played football at Brown … Sister Elisabeth plays lacrosse for Brown … Sister Sarah plays lacrosse for Columbia.

Club teams: Second place in the Prague Cup with Capital 2011 Blue … Also played for DC Metro 1, Team HLA and Under Armour South Team … Won 2011 Vail Shootout with Team HLA.

Notes: Has run two half-marathons … Father is also an Ivy Leaguer; attended Penn law school.

Notes: Grandfather, father, Kelly, and older brother Matt all played lacrosse at Princeton … Older brother Nick plays lacrosse at Villanova … Mother, Susan, ran track and played soccer at Princeton … Uncle Michael attended Yale.

Notes: Sister, Caitlin, played four years of field hockey at Columbia (captained team senior year) and walked on to play three years of lacrosse.
