Sturgill was an honorable mention US Lacrosse high school All-American and a two-time all-county and honorable mention All-Met selection at Centennial, where she received the Coaches Award and was voted the most athletic female. She captained the lacrosse and basketball teams. Sturgill was an Academic All-American, was on the principal's honor roll for four years, and is a member of the National Honor Society. She played against her Yale teammates Jenna Block and Natalie Reid in the 2005 Vail Lacrosse Shootout U-19 Girls finals. Sturgill's Maryland & District of Columbia team topped Block and Reid's Rome team 10-9 in overtime.
