Bulldogs Receive Votes in Preseason Poll

Feb. 4, 2009

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale women's lacrosse team was among the teams receiving votes in the 2009 IWLCA preseason poll. The Bulldogs, who were No. 17 in the final IWLCA poll last season, return five starters from a team that went 11-5.

Northwestern, the four-time national champions, was ranked No. 1 and Syracuse was No. 2. Seven of Yale's 2009 opponents were ranked, including Penn (No. 5), Princeton (No. 7), Georgetown (No. 8), BU (No. 10), Dartmouth (No. 13), New Hampshire (No. 14) and Cornell (t-No. 16).

This will be Anne Phillips' first season as Yale's Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach. Phillips spent the previous six seasons at Franklin & Marshall, where she went 93-24 and won the 2007 NCAA Division III National Championship with an undefeated (21-0) season.

After going 11-5 in 2008 Yale is tied with Georgetown for the second-longest current streak of winning seasons (15), trailing only Maryland (27). The Bulldogs open the season at Fairfield on Feb. 25. Yale's first game at its new home, Reese Stadium, is Mar. 11 vs. UMass.
