AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 3 Yale women's sailing team is currently in third place in the standings at the ICSA Women's National Championship, which is taking place on Lake Travis.  Racing began at noon on Thursday, but just six races have been completed in both A and B division since then.  Unstable winds caused the race committee to have to postpone racing ashore for three hours on Friday.

Sophomore skipper Marlena Fauer and sophomore crew Eugenia Custo Greig have been sailing A division for the Bulldogs.  After a mediocre first set to begin the regatta, their scores have significantly improved and a win in Friday's last A division race helped the Bulldogs break into the top three overall.

In B division, junior skipper Emily Billing and sophomore crew Amanda Salvesen started the regatta for the Bulldogs with an eighth and a sixth place finish in Thursday's two races.  They then sailed the first race of the day on Friday, finishing fifth before the wind completely shut off and racing had to be postponed.

When the wind finally filled back in at around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Yale substituted freshman skipper Morgan Kiss and freshman crew Urska Kosir to see what they could do in B division in the light and shifty wind conditions.  The freshman duo proceeded to finish third place in all three races that they sailed, putting Yale just one point out of first in the B division standings and just 10 points out of first overall.

Race 7A is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday morning, with as many races as possible to follow before the 5 p.m. regatta deadline.  Unless protests ensue, the 2012 ICSA Women's National Champions will be determined by 5 p.m. on Saturday.  Competitors, race officials and spectators alike hope that the wind is more cooperative on the final day of racing than it has been so far.  In addition to temperatures in the 90s, forecasts are calling for southerly winds of 8-11 knots over the course of the day.
