NEW HAVEN, CONN. - This weekend the No.1 Bulldogs will be competing in a new event called the Women's Team Race National Invite Promotional hosted by MIT. With the recent inclusion of many female sailors on coed team race teams, there has been a greater push to incorporate team racing into women's sailing. Based on the success of this event, an official Women's Team Racing National Championship may be created in the future. Before this event was created, the only women's team race event in the country was the historical Duplin Team Race, hosted by Tufts University every spring.
Sailing for the Bulldogs will be skippers senior Casey Klingler and sophomores Louisa Nordstrom and Chrissie Klingler. Crews senior Claire Huebner, KB Knapp, Caroline Colwell, junior Kira Woods, and first-year Cate Mollerus will all be sent to sail. Some sailors may be switched to the Coed New England Championship depending on the conditions.
The forecast looks light and warm for racing on the Charles on Saturday, with winds out of the southwest at 6-10 mph and temperatures in the high 70s. Sunday's conditions look a bit windier, with winds out of the southwest at 8-15 mph.
Winning the Duplin Team Race Championship earlier this season, the Bulldogs will be a strong team at this event.
Racing will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and can be followed live at https://scores.collegesailing.org/.
