Bulldogs in 1st on Day 1 of Sperry Women's Eastern Semifinals

NORFOLK, VA. – After a light and hot day racing in a 4-6 knot southerly off of Lambert's Point at Old Dominion University, the Bulldogs currently in 1st place on day 1 of the Sperry Women's Eastern Semifinals.

Tied with Hobart and William Smith Colleges in points, the Bulldogs hope to extend their lead tomorrow in the final day of the semifinals. Racing today was mainly focused on starting and straight line boat speed, with few oscillations occurring throughout the beat, making racing similar to a drag race at times. In the light air, major gains were able to be made through smart boat placement on downwind legs and boathandling.

Sailing for the Bulldogs is A division is senior skipper Casey Klingler with senior crew KB Knapp. The duo currently sits in 3rd in A division, 6 points out of 1st. Sitting in 1st in B division is sophomore skipper Louisa Nordstrom with sophomore crew Graceann Nicolosi. Although only four sailors started this event, team members Claudia Loiacono, Claire Huebner, Chrissie Klinger, and Cate Mollerus also made large contributions and may sail later in the event.
