Yale Announces 2010 Women's Soccer Schedule

Yale women's soccer coach Rudy Meredith has never been shy about scheduling difficult opponents, and 2010 certainly won't be an exception. The Bulldogs will play four of their first five games against teams that reached the NCAA College Cup last year, and the one exception was ranked as high as 11th in the nation at one point in the season. Yale's 17-game schedule includes nine contests in newly renovated Reese Stadium.

Saturday's game with Brown will be special for the four seniors on the Yale women's soccer team regardless of the outcome. The four, who will be playing their final home game, will be honored prior to kickoff. There is a chance, however, that it could be an even more memorable night. If the Bulldogs beat Brown and Columbia knocks off Harvard, Caitlin Collins, Sophia Merrifield, Leslie Perez and Hannah Smith will walk off the Reese Stadium field for the final time as Ivy League champions. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. and free audio is available from wybc.com.

The Yale women's soccer team did its part, edging Brown 1-0 on a cold night at Reese Stadium. Harvard's Melanie Baskind scored 5 minutes, 8 seconds into overtime to lift the Crimson to a 2-1 victory over Columbia and the outright Ivy title.

Final Road Game Takes Yale To Columbia

When the 2009 Yale women's soccer schedule was released in July, there was one thing that stood out. Only two of Yale's 10 non-conference games would be played away from Reese Stadium. That meant that the Bulldogs' three Ivy League road games would be somewhat unfamiliar experiences. Apparently it hasn't been a problem. Yale won at both Princeton and Penn and will look to complete a perfect Ivy road season when it plays at Columbia on Friday. Kickoff at Columbia Soccer Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.

It was a good day all-around for the Yale women's soccer team. Becky Brown and Kristen Forster scored, and Adele Jackson-Gibson made five saves in goal in her first career start as Yale edged Penn 2-1 on a rainy afternoon at Rhodes Field. Meanwhile, in Cambridge, Mass., Princeton got a goal late in the second half to edge Harvard 1-0. As a result, the Bulldogs and Crimson are back in a first-place tie in the Ivy League.
