Ivy League Play Opens At Princeton Saturday

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The 2009 Ivy League season kicks off for the Yale women's soccer team on Saturday. The Bulldogs make their first trip to Roberts Stadium to take on Princeton at 5 p.m. Live stats and pay-per-view video of the game will both be available from goprincetontigers.com.

Yale and Princeton enter Saturday's Ivy opener with positive momentum. The Bulldogs (4-3) are coming off a 1-0 victory over Quinnipiac on Tuesday. Freshman Mary Kubiuk scored the only goal of the game. The Bulldogs continue to be led in scoring by Becky Brown, who has seven goals. She began the week fourth in the nation in goals per game (1.167) and eighth in points per game (2.5). Freshman Kristen Forster has a team-high five assists, which is 25th in the nation.

The Tigers (2-4-1) are in the midst of three straight games against teams from Connecticut. Princeton blanked Hartford 3-0 on Wednesday and play at Fairfield on Tuesday. Six different players have scored for the Tigers. Jen Hoy leads the team with two goals and six points. Alyssa Pont has played every minute of every game in goal and has a 1.25 goals against average.

Princeton, which leads the all-time series with Yale 19-12-4, edged the Bulldogs 1-0 last year at Reese Stadium.  Lauren Whatley scored the only goal in the first half and Pont made four saves to post the shutout. Yale had a number of good chances to score in the second half but couldn't capitalize.
