Bulldogs Looking To Get Back On Track After Dropping Ivy Opener

NEW HAVEN, Conn.  – Saturday's Ivy League opener against Princeton didn't go the way the Yale women's soccer team hoped it would. The Bulldogs will try and get back on track and build some momentum for a showdown with Harvard when they host Marist on Tuesday. Kickoff at Reese Stadium is slated for 5:30 p.m. The Yale men host St. John's after the women's game.

The Bulldogs (2-5-1) generated some good pressure against Princeton but were a bit unlucky. Becky Brown had a shot bang off the post early in the first half and a couple of other Yale chances narrowly missed. A young defense continues to impress. The Bulldogs have allowed more than two goals only once so far this season.

Marist (4-5) also has been stingy. The Red Foxes have yielded only nine goals, but like Yale, have struggled to score. Marist's five goals have come from five different players. Jamie Balzarini has started all nine games in goal and has a 0.94 goals against average.

Yale and Marist are playing for only the second time. The Bulldogs defeated the Red Foxes 7-0 in 2000.

Yale travels to Harvard for a crucial Ivy League contest on Saturday, the first of four straight road games. The Bulldogs won't be back in the friendly confines of Reese Stadium until Oct. 19 when they host Holy Cross.
