Yale Faces Pioneers Tuesday Night At Reese Stadium
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Prior to Friday night's season opener with Marist, Yale head coach Rudy Meredith said he thought his team's first goal of the season would come from a freshman. Meredith Speck proved him correct when she tallied just eight minutes into the game. The goal also earned her Yale's first honor of the season. Speck was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Monday. She shared the award with Brown midfielder Allie Reilly.
Speck and her teammates will continue their busy start to the season when they host Sacred Heart on Tuesday night. Kickoff at Reese Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.
The Bulldogs posted back-to-back shutouts to capture the Yale Classic, despite having to settle for a scoreless tie with Providence on Sunday.
The shutout streak will be put to the test against Sacred Heart. The Pioneers (2-1) have scored eight goals in three games and is coming off a hard-fought 2-1 victory at Stony Brook on Sunday.
The Bulldogs are 9-0 all-time against SHU, including a 4-0 victory last year. Miyuki Hino and Kristen Forster were among the goal scorers for Yale. Juliann Jeffrey, Enma Mullo and Anna McCahon each added assists.
