  • Meredith Back With U-23 National Team For Training Camp

    Last June, Yale women’s soccer coach Rudy Meredith helped the U.S. Under-23 Women’s National team capture a Three Nations Tournament in Stjordalen, Norway. Apparently the powers that be at U.S. Soccer were impressed with his work as an assistant coach.

    Shannon McSweeney, who has helped anchor a potent defense throughout her time at Yale, has been elected captain of the 2013 Yale women’s soccer team. The announcement was made following a team vote.
  • Pair Of Bulldogs Earn All-Ivy Recognition

    A pair of seniors on the Yale women’s soccer team have earned All-Ivy recognition. Midfielder Kristen Forster, who led the team in scoring with seven goals and 17 points, was named to the first team, while Torrey Leroy, who anchored a stingy Yale defense, earned second team recognition.

    Trailing Brown 1-0 at halftime on Thursday night, Yale head coach Rudy Meredith told a national television audience watching on the Fox Soccer Channel that he was putting an “all points bulletin” out for his team’s offense. Apparently it was located. The Bulldogs scored twice in the second half and had a big edge in play. Brown, though, took advantage of one opportunity and Yale was forced to settle for a 2-2 tie on a chilly night at Stevenson Field.
  • National Television, Senior Day On Tap In Home And Home With Brown

    The Yale women’s soccer team closes out the season with a rare home-and-home with Brown. The two teams will meet in Providence on Thursday in the game that will count in the Ivy League standings. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. and the Fox Soccer Channel will televise it as part of College Game of the Week package. On Sunday at 2 p.m., the teams will meet in New Haven on Senior Day. That game will be televised on tape delay by CPTV Sports in Connecticut.

They’ll face a stiff test on Saturday when Penn comes to town for a 5:30 p.m. kickoff. The Quakers are 3-1 in Ivy League play and very much in the hunt for the league title.

    After scoring early in Friday’s game with Iona, the Yale women’s soccer team had a number of opportunities to add to the lead. The Bulldogs, though, couldn’t capitalize, and it looked like it might cost them when Iona’s Sofia Sanchez scored with 3:28 left to force overtime.
