Bulldogs Host Iona Friday, Central Connecticut Sunday
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's soccer team plays its final two games before the start of Ivy League play this weekend. The Bulldogs host Iona on Friday at 7 p.m. and then get a visit from Central Connecticut on Sunday at 4 p.m.
Sunday's game was originally scheduled for New Britain, Conn., but was recently moved to Reese Stadium. It will follow the Yale-Sacred Heart men's game, which kicks off at 1 p.m.
The Bulldogs then open league play by hosting Princeton on Sept. 22 at 3 p.m.
Yale (3-3) is coming off an impressive 8-1 victory over Saint Peter's on Tuesday night that saw seven different players score. Kristen Forster, who scored once and added three assists in Tuesday's win, is now second in the Ivy League with nine points and tied for second with three goals. Forster leads what has been a balanced attack. Nine different players have at least one goal on the season.
The Bulldogs figure to face a bigger challenge than Tuesday this weekend. Iona (2-3-1) is coming off a 1-0 victory at St. Joseph's last Sunday. The Gaels' four goals have come from four different players - Leah Taylor, Alex Chinich, Samantha Fiorenzo and Melissa Frederick. Trista Rivera has played every minute of every game and has a 0.94 goals against average.
Yale and Iona are playing for the first time.
Central Connecticut, which plays at Siena on Friday, is a perennial contender in the Northeast Conference. Kerriann Welch leads the Blue Devils with two goals. Nikola Deiter started the first five games of the season in goal and made 30 saves.
The Bulldogs are playing Central Connecticut for the first time since 2009.
