Rachel Ames, who was in goal for every minute of Yale's seven Ivy League games last fall, has earned a big honor this summer. Ames was selected as the Women's Premier Soccer League's Southern Conference Goalkeeper of the Year.  She also was a first team all-league selection.

Ames, a rising sophomore, played for Alabama FC. The team finished second in the conference, posting a 3-3-3 record, yielding only five goals in its nine games.

Ames, a Huntsville, Ala., native, started nine games overall as a freshman for the Bulldogs. She finished third in the Ivy League in save percentage (.814) and saves per game (4.07) and was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week after posting her first career shutout in 1-0 win over Cornell. In addition, she shared the team's Captain Cup Award, which is presented by the seniors to the freshman that represents the program well on and off the field.
