Gavin, Speck Earn First Team All-New England Honors

Two Combined To Start 32 Games For Bulldogs

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Melissa Gavin and Meredith Speck, the only two players to start 16 games this fall, have each been named to the All-New England first team.

Gavin, a junior, tied for the Ivy League lead with 26 points and 11 goals. The 11 goals tie for the eighth most in a season in school history, while the 26 points tie for the sixth most. Gavin, a two-time first team All-Ivy selection, has scored 20 goals in her career.

Speck also has earned first team All-Ivy recognition twice in her career. This fall, she saw a majority of her action on defense but at times moved up front. Her five assists tied for eighth in the Ivy League and were second on the team. Speck, who will captain the Bulldogs in 2014, has started 40 games during her tenure with the Bulldogs.
