Three Players Earn Preseason Honor
Gavin, Speck, Coxe Named To CollegeSportsMadness Preseason All-Ivy Team
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Three Yale women's soccer players have earned preseason recognition from CollegeSportsMadness.com. Rising seniors Melissa Gavin and Meredith Speck were both named to the All-Ivy League first team, while rising senior Frannie Coxe was selected to the second team.
Speck is coming off a season that saw her split time between defense and forward. She finished 2013 with five assists, which tied her for eighth in the Ivy League. Speck, who is the team captain this fall, has started 40 games during her career.
Gavin was one of the top scoring threats in the league last year. She tied for the league lead with 26 points and 11 goals. Her 11 goals tied for the eighth most in a season in school history, while her 26 points tied for the sixth most. She has scored 20 goals during her time at Yale.
Coxe was leading the league in assists last fall until suffering an injury that forced her to miss the rest of the season. She still finished third in the league with six assists. In her career, she has appeared in 44 games.
The Bulldogs open the 2014 season on Sept. 5 against Quinnipiac at Reese Stadium.
