NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- Freshman Crysti Howser scored both goals as Yale cruised to a 2-0 non-league victory over Central Connecticut. It was the third straight shutout for the Bulldogs, who haven't allowed a goal since the second half of the North Carolina game on Sept. 4.
Howser's first goal came 8:24 into the first half. She took a pass from Laurel Karnes in front of the goal and beat Central Connecticut goalkeeper Ashley Ferra. Howser added an insurance goal midway through the second half when she headed Emma Whitfield's cross past Ferra to the left corner of the net.
The Bulldogs, who improved to 3-2 with the win, outshot Central Connecticut 18-8. Yale also had a 9-4 advantage on corner kicks.
"It was a good win on the road for us," said Yale head coach Rudy Meredith, who has watched his team play four of its first five games away from home. "We found a way to get it done."
The Blue Devils (4-2) have won three straight Northeast Conference titles and beat Harvard 1-0 on Friday night.
The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday night when they host Quinnipiac at 7 p.m. at the Soccer-Lacrosse Stadium.
