NEW HAVEN, Conn. - It was a night of firsts for the Yale women's soccer team on Tuesday at Reese Stadium. Maggie Westfal tallied her first career hat trick and freshmen Enma Mullo and Miyuki Hino both scored their first career goals as the Bulldogs cruised to a 6-0 victory over Sacred Heart.

Yale (4-2) will take a three-game winning streak to California for games against sixth-ranked Stanford and perennial power Santa Clara this weekend at the Santa Clara Classic.

"I was concerned that we'd be thinking about Stanford and Santa Clara tonight," said Yale head coach Rudy Meredith. "I know we're excited about those two games. Fortunately we were able to take care of business. Now, we can focus on the trip to California."

Westfal made sure there was no letdown against the Pioneers (0-7). She scored her three goals in the first 27:16 of the first half. Natalia Mann and Emma Whitfield set up the initial goal. Mann dribbled through the midfield and sent a ball wide to Whitfield, who crossed it into the box where Westfal was waiting to tap it in.

The second goal was a little less conventional. Westfal took a corner kick that deflected off Sacred Heart goalkeeper Meghan Reichelt and into the net. Westfal completed the hat trick when she knocked in a Leslie Perez cross that got by Reichelt. Becky Brown also was credited with an assist on the goal.

Just 44 seconds after Westfal's third goal, the Bulldogs struck again. This time, Brown dribbled down the left wing and sent a ball right in front of the goal that Whitfield banged in.

Hino and Mullo completed the scoring in the second half. Mullo's goal came on a hard shot from nearly 25 yards out that landed in the top right corner of the net. Mullo also assisted on Hino's goal.

The six goals were the most in a game for the Bulldogs since a 9-0 win over Wagner in 2002.

"It was nice. We got a chance to play a lot of people and rest a few people," Meredith said.

Yale scored its six goals on just 14 shots. Ayana Sumiyasu and Adelaide Gay combined on the shutout in goal.

The Bulldogs have outscored their opponents 12-1 during their three-game winning streak.

Yale plays Stanford at 5 p.m. PST on Friday on the first day of the Santa Clara Classic.
