BOSTON, Mass. - Farrell McClernon scored 7:46 into overtime to lift 12th-ranked Boston University to a 2-1 victory over Yale. The Terriers extended their unbeaten streak at Nickerson Field to 16 games. The loss snapped the Bulldogs' three-game winning streak.
"It was a tough loss against a very, very good team," said Yale head coach Rudy Meredith.
Three of Yale's four losses have come against nationally ranked teams.
BU (8-2-1) scored first on Casey Brown's goal in the 14th minute. Brown settled an Emily Pallotta cross and blasted a shot from just outside the box.
Yale benefited from an own goal that tied the score at 29:25. A Boston University defender inadvertently redirected a pass into the net.
The Terriers outshot the Bulldogs 14-10, including 4-0 in overtime. Stephanie Dreyer made five saves for BU, while Susan Starr stopped two shots for Yale (4-4-1).
Yale nearly took the lead late in the second half but a shot hit the post. BU then came right down the field, but Starr stopped Lauren Erwin's shot with one minute left.
The Bulldogs are off until Saturday when they play at Harvard at 2 p.m.
