FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Laurel Karnes scored the only goal of the game in the 67th minute as Yale, ranked 23rd by SoccerBuzz.com, tied a school record with its eighth straight victory, edging Fairfield 1-0 at Lessing Field. Karnes headed in a Maggie Westfall cross. Chloe Beizer played the entire game in goal and made one save to post her second shutout of the season.
"Fairfield gave us all we could handle, but we found a way to win," said Yale head coach Rudy Meredith.
The Bulldogs (8-2) outshot the Stags 15-5.
Brett Maron made four saves in goal for Fairfield (3-4-1).
Ahna Johnson had a couple of scoring chances for the Stags. Her header off a corner kick in the first half sailed high and to the left, and her shot late in the second half was blocked by a Yale defender.
Yale also won eight consecutive games to close the regular season in 2004.
The Bulldogs, who have yielded only four goals in 10 games, entered today's action allowing only 0.44 goals per game, which was 12th best in Division I. Yale has posted six shutouts on the season, four of which have been 1-0 victories.
After playing eight of their first 10 games away from home, the Bulldogs return to the friendly confines of the Soccer-Lacrosse Stadium for their next four contests, beginning with Saturday's showdown with Ivy League rival Harvard at 4 p.m.
