Freshman Mimi Macauley scored her third goal of the season midway through the first half to lift the Bulldogs over the University of Pennsylvania Quakers, 1-0 in Philadelphia.
The Elis held off Penn for the rest of the game, with goalie Sarah Walker picking up the shutout with seven saves.
Yale improved to 8-5-1 overall, with a 2-2-1 Ivy League record, while Penn fell to 6-5-3 overall and 1-3-1 in the Ancient Eight.
The game was scoreless for the start of the first half, but at the 28:24 mark Macauley eluded Quaker goalkeeper Vanessa Scotto to give Yale the 1-0 advantage. The rest of the first half was fairly quiet, with Yale edging Penn in shots by a 2-1 margin.
In the second half, the Bulldog defense withstood an offensive onslaught by Penn, with the Quakers recording 8 shots to Yale's zero. But Walker was impressive, stopping seven of Penn's 9 total shots to grab her sixth shutout of the season.
With about ten minutes to play in the game, Penn's Rachelle Snyder fired a strong shot that bounced off the crossbar, preserving Yale's 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs return home to face Fairfield on Wednesday at the Soccer-Lacrosse Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
