NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Emma Judkins and Shannon Munoz scored second-half goals as first-place Columbia blanked Yale 2-0 on a cold night at Reese Stadium. Allison Vespa made two saves for the Lions.
After a scoreless first half, Judkins got Columbia on the board in the 59th minute when she headed in Munoz's direct kick. The Lions (9-4-3, 5-0-1 Ivy) added an insurance goal with just 1:31 left. Munoz settled a pass from Meghan Hurlbut and lofted a shot over Yale goalkeeper Susan Starr.
Yale (6-7-2, 2-3-1 Ivy) had a number of quality scoring chances but failed to capitalize. The Bulldogs' best chance came midway through the first half. Crysti Howser headed a Maggie Westfal cross, but the shot banged off the crossbar.
Howser had another good opportunity early in the second half. She was alone on the left wing, but her shot trickled just wide right.
"We were just a half step off," said Yale head coach Rudy Meredith. "It's been a frustrating season."
Eight Yale seniors were making their last Ivy League appearance in Reese Stadium. Chloe Beizer, Marcela Benitez, Trista Choksi, Erin Gillespie, Emily Haddad, Christina Huang, Mimi Macauley and Sarah Milby were all honored in a pre-game ceremony.
Yale outshot the Lions 10-9. Starr finished with two saves. Benitez started the game and made one save.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday night when they host Quinnipiac at 7 p.m. at Reese Stadium.
