Late Goal Lifts Columbia Over Yale
Nov. 1, 2003
NEW YORK, N.Y.- Yale's quest for second consecutive post-season berth suffered a setback with a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Columbia at Baker Field. After Columbia scored first in the first half, April Siuda drove a shot from 20 yards into the lower left corner to tie the score at 1-1 at 85:07. Columbia's Aubrey Medal, though, scored the game-winner just 39 seconds later.
The Light Blue opened the scoring 15:22 into the contest when Lauren Nussbaum and Meghan Hurlbut combined to get a charging Courtney Nasshorn the ball at the top of the box. Yale goalkeeper Sarah Walker came off her line, but Nasshorn headed the ball over Walker from just inside the box for her fourth goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.
Columbia had a slight edge in shots in today's game, 12-11. Walker had two saves in goal for Yale.
The Bulldogs conclude the season next Saturday when they host Brown at 7 p.m. at the Soccer-Lacrosse Stadium.
