NEW HAVEN, Conn. - After splitting its first two games of the season, the Yale women's soccer team is back in action this weekend, competing in the ECAC Classic on Cape Cod. The Bulldogs play Georgetown on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and then battle Loyola of Chicago on Sunday at noon. The classic will be held at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in Harwich, Mass., and admission is free.
"We're very excited to be participating in the tournament," said Yale coach Rudy Meredith. "We'll have a lot better idea of where we stand after the two games because of the quality of our opponents."
Yale, ranked sixth in the Northeast, is 1-1 after opening the season with a 2-0 victory over Hartford. Laurel Karnes and Vanessa Resnick each had a goal and an assist for the Bulldogs, who then fell to eighth-ranked UConn 2-0 last Sunday. Meredith has had three freshmen in the starting lineup in the first two games - Trista Choksi, Mimi Macauley and Michelle Gosselin.
Georgetown has opened the season with four losses, three of which have come by one goal. Loyola brings a 3-1 overall record to Cape Cod.
