NEW HAVEN, Conn. - At 5-0, Yale is off to its best start in school history, and the rest of the nation has taken notice. Three national polls have the Bulldogs ranked in the top 30. Yale is 19th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, while Soccer America has the Bulldogs 24th and SoccerBuzz has them 28th. In addition, Yale is ranked first in the Northeast by both the NSCAA and SoccerBuzz.
Defense has been a key to the early season success. The Bulldogs have not allowed a goal since the first half of the season-opener against UMass, a string of nearly 440 minutes. As a team, Yale is fifth in the nation in goals against average (0.20), while starting goalkeeper Sarah Walker is eighth in goals against average (0.22). The Bulldogs are also one of only 13 teams in Division I that have yet to lose or tie.
A pair of stiff tests await the Bulldogs this weekend when they travel to California to meet Santa Clara on Friday and Stanford on Sunday. Santa Clara is ranked 17th by SoccerBuzz and Stanford is 22nd.
