NEW HAVEN, Conn. - For the third week in a row, a Yale freshman has earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors. This week, it's forward Maggie Westfal, who scored the game-winning goal in overtime on Sunday as the Bulldogs knocked off ACC power Maryland 1-0. Westfall joins Hayley Zevenbergen and Crysti Howser, Yale's previous winners.
In addition to the winning goal against the Terps, Westfal also scored in Yale's 3-0 victory over George Mason on Friday. Her goal in the 82nd minute gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. Yale added another goal 2:26 later to seal the win, which snapped George Mason's three-game winning streak.
Westfal, a New Canaan, Conn., native, has appeared in all eight games this season and is fourth on the team in points with five.
The Bulldogs, who have won six straight games, play at defending Ivy League champion Princeton on Saturday at 7 p.m.
