Boston University Visits Reese Stadium Tuesday Night

Sept. 24, 2007

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Ivy League season starts Saturday night against Harvard, but the Bulldogs can't focus on the Crimson just yet. First, they have an important regional matchup with Boston University on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Reese Stadium. Yale (3-4) has won two straight games, both without allowing a goal.

Susan Starr and Ayana Sumiyasu combined on a shutout in Sunday's 1-0 victory at Central Connecticut. Starr, who made four saves against the Blue Devils, leads the Ivy League in goals against average (0.57) and save percentage (.905). Sumiyasu, who has played the second half in all seven games, also has played well. She is sixth in the league in save percentage (.731).

Maggie Westfal was named to the Ivy League Honor Roll on Monday. Westfal scored the game-winning goal in the 30th minute on Sunday against Central Connecticut and also scored in last Wednesday's 3-0 win over Sacred Heart. Westfal shares the team lead in goals (3) and points (7) with freshman Becky Brown.

Wednesday's game with Boston University figures to be low scoring. Only 10 goals have been scored in the Terriers' first eight games, and BU has four. Boston University (3-4-1) has already played two Ivy League opponents, a 1-0 loss to Harvard and a 1-0 victory over Brown.

Farrell McClernon leads the team with two goals and four points. Emily Pallotta and Mara Osher also have goals. Janie Reilly has seen a majority of the action in goal for the Terriers and has a 0.38 goals against average.

The Bulldogs will be trying to avenge a 2-1 overtime loss to the Terriers last year in Boston. McClernon scored the winning goal 7:46 into the extra session. The Terriers went on to earn an at-large berth into the NCAA College Cup.
