NEW HAVEN, Conn. - When Yale head coach Rudy Meredith was told after Sunday's thrilling 2-1 victory over Duke that Notre Dame had beaten Michigan State, he was certain his team would be heading to South Bend, Ind. Meredith was correct. It became official late Sunday night that Yale and Notre Dame will meet in the third round of the NCAA College Cup on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at Alumni Field.
The Irish, the defending NCAA College Cup champions, are 21-2 overall and ranked fifth in the latest NSCAA national poll. Notre Dame has won 11 straight games, outscoring its opponents 55-1 during the streak, and leads the nation in scoring (4.52 goals per game). Kerri Hanks and Katie Thorlakson are the individual leaders with 67 points. Hanks has 26 goals and 15 assists, while Thorlakson has scored 18 goals and added 31 assists.
