Six Bulldogs Earn All-Ivy Recognition
Six Yale softball players have earned All-Ivy recognition. Pitcher Chelsey Dunham and shortstop Meg Johnson were named to the second team, while catcher McKynlee Westman, first baseman Mariclaire Rebman, second baseman Katie Yanagisawa and outfielder Tori Balta were honorable mention selections. It was only the second time since 2006 that Yale had six players honored.

Four Yale softball players have earned 2011 Capital One Academic All-District honors. Catcher McKynlee Westman was voted to the first team, while infielder Katie Yanagisawa and outfielders Jennifer Ong and Virginia Waldrop were second team selections.

Christy Nelson Elected 2011-12 Yale Softball Captain
Christy Nelson, who led the team with six home runs, 28 RBI and 26 runs, has been elected captain of the 2011-12 Yale softball team. The announcement was made at the annual post season banquet on Sunday following a team vote.

Senior Day Sweep For Bulldogs
Friday was Senior Day at Dewitt Family Field, but it was a freshman that had the biggest hit of the day. Tori Balta’s two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning helped lead Yale to a 4-2 victory over Brown in the first game of an Ivy League doubleheader. The seniors then played a big role in the second game. Mariclaire Rebman hit a three-run homer, Katie Yanagisawa knocked in two runs and McKynlee Westman added a hit as the Bulldogs competed the sweep with a 7-5 win.

Late Rallies Come Up Short In Season Finales At Brown
In a season full of dramatic finishes, it looked like the Yale softball team might have one last late-inning rally in the final game of the year. Instead, it came up just short, and the Bulldogs dropped a 5-4 decision at Brown in the second game of an Ivy League doubleheader. The Bears won the opener 2-0.

The Yale-Marist doubleheader, scheduled for Thursday, has been cancelled due to rain. It will not be rescheduled. The Bulldogs conclude the season with back-to-back doubleheaders against Brown. The first one is Friday at 2 p.m. at Dewitt Family Field. The teams then play in Providence on Saturday beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Friday’s Senior Day Highlights Busy Stretch For Bulldogs
The last time the Yale softball team played doubleheaders on three straight days, the results were quite good. Yale won all six games, outscored its opponents 47-28 and batted .361 as a team. The Bulldogs hope for similar good fortune when they face the same scenario for the second time, starting Thursday at home against Marist at 2:30 p.m. Yale then hosts Brown on Friday at 2 p.m. and wraps up the season on Saturday at Brown at 12:30 p.m.

Bulldogs Hit Three Home Runs But Drop Doubleheader At Harvard
The Yale softball team got to one of the top pitchers in the Ivy League in a big way on Tuesday. Yale hit two home runs and scored 10 runs against Harvard’s Rachel Brown, who entered the day with a stellar 1.94 earned run average in league games. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, Harvard has a pretty potent offense as well. As a result, the Crimson escaped with a wild 12-11 victory in the opening game of a doubleheader. Harvard completed the sweep with an 11-3 win in the second game.

Bulldogs Set Team Doubles Record In Doubleheader Loss At Harvard
The Yale softball team belted two more doubles in Sunday’s doubleheader with Harvard. The first of the two was the Bulldogs’ 58th of the season, which broke the school record. Unfortunately Yale couldn’t string together enough hits and dropped a doubleheader to the Ivy League North Division leading Crimson. Harvard won the opener 8-0 and took the second game 11-1.

There was much for the Yale softball team to celebrate in Wednesday’s doubleheader with Wagner. Jennifer Ong belted her school record 15th double of the season in the opener, and Yale tied the school record with its 57th double of the season in the second game.

Due to a rainy forecast in Boston on Saturday, the Yale-Harvard softball four-game series has been changed. The first doubleheader will be Sunday at 12:30 p.m. The teams will then play the second doubleheader on Tuesday, Apr. 26 beginning at 2 p.m.

It didn’t take long for Wednesday’s doubleheader with Wagner to become memorable for the Yale softball team. On the second pitch of the day, Jennifer Ong belted her 15th double of the season, setting a new school record. That was the start of a big first game for the Bulldogs, who cruised to a 9-1 win. Wagner came back to take the second game 7-4.

More late-game heroics helped the Yale softball team earn a split of an Ivy League doubleheader with Dartmouth on Sunday at Dewitt Family Field. The Bulldogs scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning of the first game to escape with a 3-2 victory. Katie Yanagisawa scored the winning run on a passed ball. Dartmouth came back to win the second game 7-5.

The Yale softball team made it through its eight-games against Ivy League South opponents in good shape. The Bulldogs won five. That sets up an important four-game series with Dartmouth as Ivy North action begins this weekend. Dunham Earns Ivy League Rookie of Week Honors
Chelsey Dunham, who was the winning pitcher in four of Yale’s six victories last week, has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week. Dunham, a Fairfax Station, Va., native, tossed 30 innings, struck out 20 and allowed only nine earned runs in five appearances.

Six games in three days didn’t prove to be a problem for the Yale softball team. The Bulldogs won all six, completing the perfect weekend with a doubleheader sweep of Rhode Island on Sunday. Jennifer Ong had two hits and knocked in three runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the eighth, as Yale won the first game 4-3. Christy Nelson’s RBI double scored Mariclaire Rebman in the bottom of the seventh inning of the second game as the Bulldogs won a wild 12-11 decision.

Bulldogs Complete Perfect Ivy Weekend; Sweep Columbia
Much of the attention has been focused on Yale’s hitting recently, but in Saturday’s doubleheader sweep of Columbia it was a pitcher that may have played the most important role. Chelsey Dunham tossed a three-hit shutout in the opener as the Bulldogs cruised to a 7-0 victory. Dunham then pitched three innings of shutout relief as Yale rallied for a 12-7 win in the second game.

Late Game Heroics And A Doubleheader Sweep
The Yale softball team was certainly due for some late-game heroics. Freshman Tori Balta made sure it happened. Balta’s single through the left side of the infield scored Christy Nelson with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Bulldogs to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Penn in the first game of an Ivy League doubleheader at Dewitt Family Field. Yale completed the sweep in less dramatic but equally impressive fashion. The Bulldogs banged out 16 hits and cruised to a 10-6 win over the Quakers.

Heartbreaking Doubleheader Loss For Bulldogs
It was a heartbreaking day for the Yale softball team. The Bulldogs took leads into the bottom of the seventh inning of both games against Providence only to see the Friars rally and win both ends of the doubleheader. Justine Stratton’s third homer of the game, this one a grand slam, lifted PC to a wild 12-10 victory in the opener, and Michelle Huber’s RBI single capped a two-run seventh-inning rally in the nightcap as Providence won 2-1.

The Yale softball team erupted for 21 runs and 27 hits in Sunday’s doubleheader with Princeton. The Bulldogs may need to be just as sharp offensively when they play two games at Providence on Wednesday. The Friars have belted 27 home runs in 33 games and average nearly 3.5 runs per game. The first pitch of the first game is slated for 2:30 p.m.

Hits haven’t been a problem for the Yale softball team recently. Turning those hits into runs has been the issue. The Bulldogs went a long way toward solving that problem in Sunday’s doubleheader with Princeton. Yale banged out 27 hits in the two games but more importantly scored 21 runs to earn a split with the Tigers.

Ivy Openers Go To Cornell
Nobody on the Yale softball team will shed a tear when Cornell pitcher Elizabeth Dalrymple graduates in May. Dalrymple continued her mastery of the Bulldogs, along with the rest of the Ivy League, by tossing a four-hit shutout to lead the Big Red to a 3-0 victory in the first game of a doubleheader. Cornell won the second game 10-2.

It looks like the weather is going to cooperate so the Yale softball team will indeed open Ivy League play on Saturday against Cornell. There is, however, a catch. Because Cornell’s field is not playable, the doubleheader will be held at Ithaca College’s Kostrinsky Field. The first pitch of the first game is slated for 2 p.m. The Bulldogs will then play two at Princeton on Sunday beginning at 12:30 p.m.

A winter that doesn't seem to want to end continues to force changes to the Yale softball schedule. This weekend's trip to Cornell and Princeton has been pushed back a day. Originially, Yale was supposed to play Friday and Saturday. Now, the Bulldogs will play Cornell on Saturday and Princeton on Sunday. Bulldogs Bang Out 19 Hits In Doubleheader Loss
Yale’s bats came alive in the final tuneup before the start of Ivy League play. The Bulldogs banged out 19 hits in two games with Fairfield. Unfortunately for Yale, the Stags ‘offense was a little more potent. As a result, Fairfield swept the doubleheader, winning the first game 8-5 and taking the nightcap 11-3.

During its eight day stay in Florida at the Rebel Games, the Yale softball team was able to get in a nice rhythm. The Bulldogs won six of eight games playing nearly every day. Entering Saturday’s doubleheader with Army, Yale had played only four games in 12 days. The rust may have shown as the Bulldogs lost both, 12-0 and 6-1.

Bryant only managed nine hits off Yale’s pitching in Saturday’s doubleheader, but the Bulldogs sure made the most of them. Bryant scored nine runs to sweep the doubleheader, winning the first game 6-1 and taking the nightcap 3-0.

Jennifer Ong belted her first career home run, and Meg Johnson added three hits but it wasn’t enough for the Yale softball team against Central Connecticut. The Blue Devils banged out 20 hits to sweep a doubleheader from the Bulldogs on a spring-like day at the CCSU Softball Field. Central won the first game 5-1 and took the nightcap 8-2.

Freshman Chelsey Dunham is off to a strong start for the Yale softball team. Dunham struck out 24 batters in 27.1 innings and picked up four wins during Yale’s seven-day stay at the Rebel Games in Florida. On Tuesday, Dunham was rewarded for her efforts by being named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.

Bulldogs Rally To Edge Florida A&M; Fall To Eastern Kentucky
The season is still in its early stages, but the Yale softball team is already establishing it can win close games. The Bulldogs got an RBI double from Jennifer Ong in the top of the eighth inning, added an insurance run and then held on for a 3-2 victory over Florida A&M at the Rebel Games. In its second game of the day, Yale fell to Eastern Kentucky 7-0.

Bulldogs Open Season With Pair Of Victories
The 2011 season is off to a strong start for the Yale softball team. The Bulldogs banged out 13 hits and scored 11 runs in a pair of victories at the Rebel Games. Christy Nelson’s two-run triple in the fifth inning was the game-winning hit in Yale’s 3-2 victory over Loyola, Ill. Nelson then belted a three-run home run, and McKynlee Westman added a two-run single as the Bulldogs cruised to an 8-0 victory over La Salle.

Season Outlook: Bulldogs Ready For Exciting 2011 Campaign
The New Haven weather hasn’t exactly cooperated, but that hasn’t kept the Yale softball team from preparing for the 2011 season. At 6 a.m. on most weekdays, while many of their schoolmates are still asleep, the Bulldogs can be found inside Coxe Cage getting ready for what they hope will be a successful campaign. There certainly appears to be enough talent and experience to have Yale in the hunt for the Ivy League’s North Division title come mid April.

Bulldogs To Host Pitching & Hitting Clinic On Feb. 20
The Yale softball team will host a pitching and hitting clinic on Sunday, Feb. 20 at Coxe Cage. The session begins with a pitching clinic at 10:30 a.m. – pitchers must bring a catcher – and continues with a hitting clinic at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $45 per session or $80 for both. The price for groups of 10 or more is $30 per player, but groups must register in advance with group names. Registration will be conducted at the door starting 30 minutes prior to the sessions but participants must reserve a spot by emailing head coach Barbara Reinalda at
