Chelsey Dunham Named Ivy League Rookie Of The Week
Posted Four Wins In Circle During Yale's Trip To Rebel Games
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Chelsey Dunham is off to a strong start for the Yale softball team. Dunham struck out 24 batters in 27.1 innings and picked up four wins during Yale's seven-day stay at the Rebel Games in Florida. On Tuesday, Dunham was rewarded for her efforts by being named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
In her first career start, Dunham went four innings, allowed one hit and struck out five to earn a win over La Salle. Other highlights included three innings of relief in Yale's 3-2, eight-inning victory over Florida A&M in which she allowed one hit and fanned two as well as five scoreless innings in Yale's 4-0 win over Wagner.
Dunham, a Fairfax Station, Va., native, brings strong credentials to Yale. She was the 2010 Virginia Gatorade Softball Player of the Year at South County Secondary School. In her career, she had a school record 1007 strikeouts in 577 innings pitched and posted a 77-9 record with 44 shutouts and 10 no-hitters.
Dunham is Yale's first Rookie of the Week since March 27, 2007, when Ashley Sloan shared the honor.
The Bulldogs, who returned to New Haven on Monday, are back in action on Thursday when they play a doubleheader at Central Connecticut beginning at 2 p.m.
