Bulldogs Travel To Sacred Heart Wednesday
Final Non-Conference Road Game Of Season
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale softball team won't have to travel far for its final non-conference doubleheader of the season. The Bulldogs make the short trip down I-95 to meet Sacred Heart on Wednesday. The first pitch of the first game is slated for 3 p.m.
Yale (7-27) features two of the top-10 hitters in the Ivy League. Jennifer Ong (.345) is sixth, while Meg Johnson (.324) is eighth. Christy Nelson may find herself among the league leaders soon if she continues her current hot streak. Nelson was named to the league's Honor Roll on Tuesday after batting .357 in six games last week. She has reached base at least once in eight of the last nine games.
Sacred Heart (16-25) will be playing its first game in its new stadium – Pioneer Park. The Pioneers are coming off a doubleheader loss at Long Island on Sunday and feature one of the top two-way players in the Northeast Conference in junior Nicole Sidor. Sidor leads the team with eight home runs and is also the team's top pitcher with a 2.51 ERA and 148 strikeouts in 142.1 innings.
Yale leads the all-time series with Sacred Heart 15-9. The teams split a doubleheader in 2010. Ong had three hits, including a pair of doubles, in the Bulldogs' 10-0 victory in the second game.
