CollegeSportsMadness Honors Four Bulldogs
Johnson, Ong, Nelson, Balta Earn Second Team All-League Recognition
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Four Yale softball players have been honored by CollegeSportsMadness.com. Meg Johnson, Jennifer Ong, Christy Nelson and Tori Balta were each named to the all-conference second team.
Johnson started all 46 games at shortstop for the Bulldogs and led the Ivy League with 13 stolen bases. She also was sixth in the league in average (.343) and hits (49) and tied for 10th in runs scored (24). In 20 Ivy games, Johnson batted .390.
Nelson also had impressive number in league play. In 20 games, she batted .375 with three home runs, five doubles and 12 RBI. Overall, she started 46 games at third base, tied for third in the league with 12 doubles and was sixth in slugging percentage (.514) and total bases (72).
Ong, who started 46 games at second base, was second in the league with 54 hits. She also was fifth in average (.351) and sixth in on base percentage (.409). Ong ended the season with a 14-game hitting streak.
Balta started 43 games in centerfield and tied for 10th in the league with 24 runs scored. In addition, her seven RBI in league games were the third most on the team.
The official All-Ivy League team will be announced later this week.
