Bulldogs, Crimson Meet In Doubleheaders Saturday, Sunday

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale softball team returns to the friendly confines of Dewitt Family Field to host a four-game series with Harvard this weekend. The teams will play doubleheaders on both Saturday and Sunday. The first pitch on each day is slated for 12:30 p.m.

Yale has been swinging the bats well of late. The Bulldogs have had at least six hits in six of their last eight games, including on Wednesday when they tallied nine hits at Sacred Heart. Senior Tori Balta leads of the offense. She is fourth in the Ivy League with a .372 batting average. Sarah Onorato and Lauren Delgadillo also have been hot at the plate. Onorato has at least one hit in four straight games and is batting .500 (6-of-12) during the stretch. Delgadillo belted her team-leading third home run of the season on Wednesday and has reached base at least once in each of her last 14 games.

The Bulldogs will be facing a Harvard team that is in the hunt for the North Division title. The Crimson, who was 7-0 in Ivy play heading into Thursday's doubleheader at Princeton, has been affected more than any other team by the poor weather this spring. In addition to Thursday's makeup doubleheader, Harvard has to play another rescheduled doubleheader at Cornell on Tuesday.

The Crimson leads the league in earned run average. Laura Ricciardone began the week second in the league in a number of pitching categories, including ERA (1.90), innings (103.1) and wins (11). Offensively, Harvard tops the Ivy League by a wide margin in stolen bases (60) and is second in average (.279) and runs scored (144).
