Offense Erupts In Doubleheader Sweep At Brown

Bulldogs Hit Three Homers, Including Onorato Grand Slam

PROVIDENCE, R.I.  – Yale's bats came alive in a big way at Brown on Friday. The Bulldogs banged out 21 hits, including three home runs, en route to a doubleheader sweep of the Bears. Sarah Onorato hit a grand slam, and Carolyn McGuire added a solo homer as the Bulldogs cruised to a 10-1 victory in the opener. In the second game, Tori Balta had three hits and scored a pair of runs in Yale's 11-2 victory.

Balta had five hits on the day, while McGuire and Lauren Delgadillo each had four. Delgadillo also reached base in both games, extending her streak to 20 straight games.

The Bulldogs got strong performances in the circle in each game. Freshman Lindsay Efflandt didn't allow an earned run in the first game to earn her first career victory. In the second game, Chelsey Dunham and Kristen Leung combined on a four-hitter.

Trailing 1-0 in the opener, Yale erupted for seven runs in the third inning. Delgadillo and Camille Weisenbach both had RBI singles in the inning and Onorato and McGuire hit back-to-back home runs. Onorato's blast came with the bases loeaded.

McGuire's two-run single was the highlight of a three-run fifth inning for the Bulldogs that capped the scoring.

With Yale ahead by nine, the game ended after the fifth inning.

Efflandt pitched a five hitter. She struck out two and did not issue a walk

The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning of the second game. Delgadillo singled home the first run, and Hannah Brennan followed with a two-run home run, her team-leading fourth round-tripper of the season.

Rachel Paris' RBI double in the fourth made it 4-0, and Yale put the game away by scoring seven times in the fifth. Onorato (single), McGuire (two-run single), Weisenbach (sacrifice fly), Balta (single) and Laina Do all knocked in runs in the inning.

Brown scored twice in the bottom of the fifth but could not prolong the game any further.

Dunham pitched the first 4.1 innings to earn the victory before Leung came on to get the final two outs.

The same two teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Dewitt Family Field on Saturday. The first pitch of the first game is slated for 12:30 p.m.
