Second Game Of Day Cancelled Because Of Weather

It wasn't the result the Yale softball team was looking for, but the Bulldogs should have plenty to feel good about after dropping a hard-fought 2-1 decision to Boise State in the season opener at the Grand Canyon Purple Classic. Boise State (9-2) was playing its 11th game of the season and already has wins over Loyola Marymount and Long Beach State, who have both received votes in the national poll, on its resume.

Yale's second game of the day against North Dakota was cancelled because of the weather.

The Broncos scored once in the first inning and again in the third.

That was all Yale pitcher Terra Jerpbak allowed. She tossed six innings, scattering eight hits and striking out one.

Annie Tarte went 2-for-3 and scored for the Bulldogs. Shelby Kennedy, Carlin Hagmaier and first year Maya Seifert also had hits.

Trailing 2-0, Yale scored in the sixth. Tarte led off with a single and came around to score on Hagmaier's double.

Because of the weather, the schedule for the tournament has been changed for Saturday. Yale's remaining games are:

Saturday

2pm MST - Boise State vs. Yale
6:30pm MST - Yale vs. North Dakota

Sunday

1 pm MST – Grand Canyon vs. Yale
