Laura Beckert, a 2003 Yale graduate, joins Van Etten's staff this spring as a volunteer assistant. A second-team Academic All-America selection in 2003, Beckert was selected as a Yale School of Management Silver Scholar and is currently enrolled in the Yale MBA program.
Beckert was a first team All-Ivy selection as a senior after leading the Bulldogs in batting average (.361), runs (33), hits (56) and slugging percentage (.452). As a junior she served as team captain and started all 45 games, mostly in left field. In her sophomore year, Beckert was named to the all-tournament team at the New Haven City Series, and in her rookie year she started 29 games, mostly at third base, and was fifth on the team in batting.
