Shiota appeared in 22 games last year before illness ended her season. She belted her first career home run against Sacred Heart and had two multiple RBI games. As a sophomore Shiota played in 23 games after missing most of her freshman year due to injury.
At Woodbridge High School, Shiota was part of a team that won three straight league championships and captured the 1997 state tournament. As a senior Shiota was named best Defensive Player and earned honorable mention all-league recognition. She is the daughter of Robert and Jean Shiota.
