KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Peggy Hunt pitched a two-hit shutout as Yale opened the season with a 1-0 victory over La Salle at the Rebel Games. Hunt struck out five and walked only one. In their second game of the day, the Bulldogs fell to Maine 6-4.
Yale scored the only run of the game against La Salle in the fifth inning. Freshman Aracelis Torres led off with a walk, but was erased on Christina Guerland's fielder's choice. After Chelsea Kanyer singled, Kristy Kwiatkowski drove home Guerland with a single.
Kanyer was 2 for 3 for Yale, which had six hits in the game.
Vinnie Caputo had both La Salle hits.
Against Maine, Torres and Kwiatkowski both had two hits, but Maine scored five times in the fifth inning to erase a 4-1 Yale lead. Guerland, Niki Haab, Jessica Meyer and Kate Meserve also had hits for the Bulldogs.
Brittany Cheney homered for Maine.
Ashley Linnenbank pitched 4.1 innings for the Bulldogs and allowed only two earned runs.
The Bulldogs play Robert Morris at 10:40 a.m. and Saint Peter's at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
