KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Aracelis Torres doubled, tripled and knocked in three runs as Yale topped IPFW 5-1 in its second game of the day at the Rebel Games. Megan Enyeart also had two hits for the Bulldogs. Kayla Kuretich pitched the first four innings and allowed only three hits. In the first game of the day, Yale fell to Tennessee-Martin 8-3.
Against IPFW, Tara Mickelson's RBI single in the first inning gave the Mastadons a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs tied it in the second. Allie Canulli singled, advanced to second on Lauren Huddleston's sacrifice bunt and scored on Megan Boon's single.
Yale took the lead with two runs in the third. Katie Yanagisawa was hit by a pitch to leadoff the inning and promptly stole second. She moved to third on a passed ball and scored on Ashley Sloan's single. Torres followed with a triple to the right-centerfield gap.
The Bulldogs took advantage of a pair of IPFW errors to score twice more in the seventh. McKynlee Westman singled and Torres had an RBI double in the inning.
Holly Gutterud pitched three innings of one-hit relief to earn a save.
In the opener, Yale faced a Tennessee-Martin team that had already played 18 games. Kara Harper and Laura Roberts both homered for UT-Martin (10-9). The Skyhawks scored four times in the second inning and led 6-0 after three innings.
The Bulldogs scored in the fourth on Katie Edwards's RBI single and added two runs in the seventh. Canulli started the seventh-inning rally with a single, and Courtney Blachford followed with a bunt single. Sloan then drove both home with a double to right-centerfield.
The times for Yale's games on Monday have been switched. The Bulldogs will now play IPFW at 9 a.m. and Butler at 1 p.m.
