KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Alex Boros's two-out, RBI double in the eighth inning snapped a 3-3 tie and helped Butler edge Yale 5-3 at the Rebel Games. Rebecca Wojciak was the hard-luck losing pitcher for Yale. She went 7.2 innings and did not allow an earned run. Megan Enyeart had two hits and scored a run for the Bulldogs. Yale dropped its first game of the day, falling to Eastern Illinois 2-0.
Against Butler, Wojciak worked out of a big jam in the fifth. Butler had the bases loaded with one out, but Wojciak struck out Katie Bell and Meredith Parks snared Annie Dolan's liner to third.
Yale then scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Parks led off with a walk, and Kathleen Edwards followed with a long home run to left. Enyeart then singled and moved to third on Courtney Blachford's double to left-center. Ashley Linnenbank drove home the third run with a ground out.
Butler tied it in the sixth with three unearned runs. Amy Hyerczyk tripled home two runs and then scored on Jill Meinhold's double.
In the eighth, Annie Dolan was placed on second base to start the inning. Wojciak retired the first two hitters, but Boros hit one into the left-centerfield gap and later scored on an error.
In the bottom of the eighth with a runner on second, Kyli Hanson hit a sharp liner, but Dolan made a diving catch at second and flipped the ball to second to complete a double play.
The Eastern Illinois game was a pitcher's duel between Yale's Peggy Hunt and EIU's Karyn Mackie. Hunt went the distance and did not allow an earned run. She has now not yielded an earned run in her last 14 innings. Mackie pitched a four-hit shutout and struck out three.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Rachel Karos and Katy Steele singled, and both came around to score on a throwing error.
Parks had two of Yale's four hits.
Eastern Illinois threatened in the fourth, but Kate Meserve threw out Katy Steele trying to score from second on Ashley Condon's single to short centerfield.
The Bulldogs had a runner thrown out at the plate in the fifth. Deanna DiBernardi singled with one out and moved to second on a ground out. Christina Guerland followed with a single to left, but Angie Danca made a strong throw to the plate to get DiBernardi.
Yale is off until Tuesday. The Bulldogs play Cleveland State at 2:20 p.m. and Colgate at 6 p.m.
